Some tips for a good start in virtual reality

Some tips for a good start in virtual reality

For a few years, Virtual Reality has continued to gain in popularity and innovations in the field have allowed users to enjoy ever more immersive experiences. At first glance, using a Virtual Reality headset can be confusing for those who are not yet used to this technology. Are you new to Virtual Reality? do you want to do your firsts steps right? Don't panic, the VR360 team will guide you through your beginning and give you some useful tips to get you started.

Our tips for a nice begenning in virtual reality

1 - Adjust your headset correctly.

Over time, helmets have gained considerably in ergonomics. So much so that neither the shape of your face, nor its size, can be a barrier to your use of a helmet. You still have to know how to adjust your helmet so that it fits your head properly and that comfort is optimal. We therefore recommend that you pay attention to the following settings:

Adjust the distance between your eyes and the lenses:  Do you wear glasses or are your eyebrows too long? Depending on the helmet models, it is possible to adjust the distance between the lenses so as to eliminate any discomfort. However, keep in mind that the greater the distance between one and the other, the narrower your field of vision will be. In addition to the adjustments integrated into the helmet, it is also possible to adjust this distance by adding inserts and foams of different shapes and thicknesses.
Adjust the straps of the helmet:The straps that surround your skull are essential for the holding of the helmet but also for comfort. It is thanks to these that you can reduce the feeling of weight towards the front and ensure that the helmet sits firmly on your face. It is therefore necessary to tighten them to the same length on each side until the helmet is stable enough not to move during head movements.
Eliminate light disturbance: it is possible that despite the adjustments that you have made the junction between your face and the helmet insert, it is not well done. In this case, light can pass between and obstruct your vision. To remedy this, you can opt for another foam format or for a nose support, which in addition to optimizing the comfort helps prevent light from passing through.

2 - Choose the right room

The place in which you plan to use your Virtual Reality equipment is to be carefully chosen. Indeed, it can impact your playing comfort and even the performance of your headphones. Here are some of the things you need to consider:

The area of the room: The room must be large enough for you to enjoy optimal freedom of movement.

Security :Make sure that no object that could disturb your session is lying around you. The goal is to avoid discomfort, falls and knocks during your movements.

Brightness:Light can trick helmets that work with built-in cameras and prevent them from tracking properly. It is therefore essential to ensure that the lighting in the room is not too bright.

3 - First uses

Before venturing into extended sessions, we advise beginners to start with short sessions aimed at familiarizing themselves with the material. A mastery and a good knowledge of the headset are necessary to fully benefit from your experience in Virtual Reality. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure that you understand and know how to handle the following elements:

Controllers : Getting started, function of each button and possibility of movement.
Base stations and trackers (if equipped) : Adjust the position of the sensors and try various configurations if necessary.
Headset Interface : Familiarize yourself with the different menus and make your mark in the virtual environment.

4 - Vary experiences

Once you get started with your headset, you can start exploring the different content available in Virtual Reality. This allows you to try out different sensations of immersion and to discover new experiences. For example, here is a non-exhaustive list of original content that you can view in Virtual Reality:

Gaming :Try out games of various kinds (action, horror, speed, etc.) and discover new ways of interacting with the virtual environment.

Contemplation : Explore sublime landscapes as if you were there, whether real or fictional.

Thrills: Embark on breathtaking action scenes through extreme sport or places you would never have been to in real life.

Streaming :  Watch your favorite movies in full immersion.

5 - Preserve your equipment

Certain actions are necessary to keep your equipment in good condition as long as possible and for the well-being of its users. These gestures can be accompanied by specialized accessories to be purchased separately from your helmet. To do this, we recommend that you keep the following two concepts in mind:

Protection of your equipment : The accessories dedicated to protection or even storage allow you to transport and store your equipment without risking damage or losing components.
Maintenance of your equipment : Maintenance and cleaning products keep your equipment in good condition and at a good level of hygiene for the comfort of users and to prevent the transmission of pathogens.
